The upside of being very very very tired is that you might see a beautiful sunup somewhere in the vineyard.
It helps a lot to witness so many beautiful things while we're working long hours and are tired, all of us.
On the downside, I have black rings underneath my eyes that reach down to my toes. More precisely: They weave around my toenails and then come back up to my eyes. In the evening my eyes don't look in the same direction either, something they have obstinately insisted on doing when I'm very tired since I was a small child. I mean, why look in the same direction when you can observe so many more things in so many more directions when you're already tired ?
Today I went to the doctor because I suddenly realized I'm still not vaccinated against Tetanus. I used to be a long time ago but since I don't live in my parent's house any more I have been avoiding shots. Unconsciously but effectively (Shots hurt, you know ?). But since I cut my finger during manual harvest it came back to me in a flash and after some very scary Internet researches I decided that a shot is nothing compared to the actual illness. Of course I felt all the beginning signs of Tetanus this night, but most astonishingly they were all gone again this morning and I could wait my hour and a half at the doctor's just to have the paper that tells the pharmacy they have the right to sell me the Tetanus vaccine (22 Euros at the doctor's and more to come at the pharmacy). Some day soon I'll have to go back to said doctor to pay another 22 Euros, wait another hour, and get a painful shot. Lucky me.
The doctor also told me I had an inflammation in my left hand from doing repetitive tasks. Which would be fine, only I'm right-handed. You have never met anyone as right-handed as I am. I did all manual harvest with my right hand but my left hand is hurting and inflamed. Probably with rage because it didn't get to do anything.
... Less than ten hectares to go. I'm very tired, and I wish harvest would end. We probably have another three weeks to go. Don't expect blog posts to make more sense than this one. Sense is a luxury right now. As is sleep.
But your comments always make my day. Did you know that ?
