It's the first of December today, and thus another advent has come.
Advent means 'coming' or 'arriving' and covers the four Sundays before Christmas.
I don't know how it is in your country, but in Germany there is scarcely a child who has no advent calendar, a little bit of chocolate or a pretty image for each day, beginning on the first of December and ending on the 24th. You can deal with an advent calendar in different ways. My brother usually opened more than one little door on his calendar, ate the chocolate and then closed them again, very carefully, so that our mother wouldn't see. Or that's what I always thought the reason for closing them again was.
Mostly you're supposed to open one door each day though and wait patiently until the next morning, when you wake up and can happily open the next advent calendar door.
Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while know that in 2007 I gave away a little something each day of the advent. Those of you who have come here recently get a chance to participate now.
The game goes as follows:
Each day of the advent I'll post about something silly and you then have to figure out a witty comment to my dull posts. Each person who leaves a comment (witty or otherwise) will then enter that day's draw. Last year I was herewith assisted by the Hairy Fairies, this year I'll have to see how things work out and whether or not they're cooperative.
The next day I'll post something silly again, but I will also tell all the world who has won the last gift. I will not tell anyone what you've won, though. You can choose to do so yourself, if you have a blog, or not. If you're secretive.
If you do have a blog, spread the word about the giveaway so that as many people as possible can join the fun.
Well, it's fun for me. I don't have to figure out a different comment each day.
And if you were wondering: The picture shows today's gift. So keep the comments coming.
