thank you for telling me the story about your friend's yearly christmas tree fight. I especially appreciate the part where the two of them are standing in the middle of the wood, in snow and ice, with the christmas tree man, chainsaw in hand, ready for the choosing. She has already determined not to say a word this year, but as the silence wears on and the Christmas tree man starts to get fidgety and impatient, she asks her husband to finally say something. And then he replies 'I told myself I wouldn't say a word this year.'
That's fourty years of marriage and learning with each other, I guess.
I also understood that you didn't tell me this story for nothing, and that you're the one getting impatient and fidgety because our Christmas tree is usually put up and decorated at the last possible minute, and not without some sibling squabbles.
Maui and I will be home Wednesday evening and I'll put up and decorate the tree first thing Thursday morning.
Oh and ps: Dad, you have to help me put the thing up, please. Thanks.
Janet Clare, you won yesterday's advent gift, my pragmatic british friend. In your honor I'll go and buy myself a new teacup tomorrow.
