When the semester started a couple of weeks ago, I had my third semesters draw an auto-portrait. Actually, I had everyone draw an auto-portrait, even my eCourse students. It's a good way to get to know people and to gage skill levels.
Third semesters, unlike second semesters, get to choose if they want to stay in a certain class for the semester or whether they want to change classes and do, say, photography instead of illustration. My poor second semesters are stuck with me for half a year, poor dears.
Two weeks into the semester one of the third semesters came up to me and said he had a hint to give me. He had changed classes and was doing something else instead. Because, so he said, illustration wasn't at all what he had imagined. It was too much about drawing.
I have to admit that I was so dumbfounded that I forgot to ask what exactly he had expected.
